ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH YOUR KIDS WHILE AT HOME

Discovery Tree Academy

Kids love to play. It’s in their nature. Of course, there is an abundant amount of learning in play, but kids usually don’t notice this, nor do they care. To them, examining worms crawl in the dirt is just fun, watching the leaves fall in autumn and then raking them up and jumping in them is the best game, and climbing a tree is just a way to get a better vantage point. However, when your kids are stuck in your home with a bunch of pent-up energy, you need to find creative ways to channel that into something useful.

Discovery Tree Academy in Springville and Payson is an early childhood development center that offers your child a solid foundation as they move forward towards elementary school. We offer infant and toddler daycare, preschool, and Pre-K programs that focus on creating life-long learners. Below, we’ll offer up some activities you can do with your kids while they are at home. Contact our early learning school today for enrollment information!

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR CHILD AT HOME

Play Board Games

Board games have been around for millenia, and there is a reason they are so popular — they are fun! When you need an activity to do, you can choose any board game, from chess to Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit, and play for hours. Your kids will have fun (and so will you), and if you choose an educational one, you’ll learn something as well. You can while away hours, playing multiple games and spending good quality time together as a family.

Read Books Out Loud

Children love to read stories (even older ones), and when you grab a classic book off the shelf and begin reading, kids can’t help but be swept up. Choose an exciting tale full of adventure and excitement. You can choose books that have been turned into movies as well. Some great choices are the Harry Potter Series or The Chronicles of Narnia. Both offer excitement and adventure, and the authors are amazing writers. This is a great at-home activity that you can do with the kids that you will remember doing for a lifetime.

Crafts

Almost all kids love craft day at school. Here, they get to use their creative genius, using the tools in front of them, to make something out of nothing. Not only is this great for developing important skills, such as dexterity using scissors or problem solving while making paper mache, but your kids learn that anything is possible. Provide a bunch of different mediums for them to work with, and soon your entire home’s walls will be covered in wonderful creations that you can cherish for a lifetime.

Baking

Baking is not only great for the soul (think comfort food here), but your child will also learn valuable life skills that they can carry on into life. Many children naturally love to bake brownies or cookies (after all, who doesn’t love homemade desserts?), but enlisting their help to cook dinner will teach them how to put a meal together, how to choose nutritious foods, and how the oven and toaster work. Furthermore, your kids can practice math skills while at home since often recipes call for certain measurements of ingredients, such as one cup of flour or eight ounces of chicken. If you wanted to go all out, you could do crafts all day and then cook homemade chocolate chip cookies.
